Armed fighters of Al-shabab attacked Somali military base in Barsanguni village of Lower Jubba region, jubbaland administration on Monday, military officials told Radio Kulmiye.
Al-shabab said on their news websites that their attack started with a car loaded with explosives and armed fighters stormed the base.
Somali military officials confirmed the attack and said they have repulsed, adding that there is casualties of both sides.
The base is some 50 km (31 miles) away from the port city of Kismayu.
“We first attacked the base with a suicide car bomb and then stormed. We killed 27 soldiers and took the base. Some soldiers fled into the jungles,” Abdiasis Abu Musab, al Shabaab’s military operation spokesman told Reuters news agency.
“They [Al-shabab] attacked as and they fail, the fighting started about 5:00 am” Muqtar Abdi Mohamed, military officer told Radio kulmiye.
“There is casualties but not counted” he added.
