Former Federal minister elected Puntland president

Former federal minister of Planning and International Cooperation Said Abdullahi Dani was elected to lead Puntland State in the coming five years on Tuesday. The speaker of the Puntland house of representative declared as the winner of the race following the conclusion of a third-round contest which was participated by two candidates.

Mr Dani received 35 votes against his close rival General Asad Osman Diyano who got 31 votes. The elected president was immediately sworn in as per the Puntland constitution.
He briefly addressed the States’ legislators pledging he will push Puntland forward as drawn in his campaign speech. However, the former president Abdweli Ali Gaas has congratulated the new president and urged to lead Puntland inclusively.
